Software modernization

Improve the system your business already depends on.

Mature applications rarely need a dramatic rewrite as the first answer. We identify what makes the system risky, expensive or slow to change, then plan the smallest controlled improvement that moves it forward.

Discuss your modernization

A good fit

When modernization is the right conversation

  • A Laravel or PHP application is overdue an upgrade and the risk keeps postponing it.
  • Releases are slow or fragile because important behaviour is not safely tested.
  • Infrastructure cost or complexity has grown faster than the product needs.

What the work can include

Modernization can be a focused review, a staged implementation or support for the team already doing the work.

01

Application assessment

Map business-critical behaviour, dependencies, deployment constraints and the changes that carry the most risk.

02

Laravel and PHP upgrades

Plan framework, runtime and package changes in stages that can be reviewed and tested.

03

Tests and migration safety

Protect the important user and data paths before changing the parts they depend on.

04

Reliability and running costs

Review architecture and infrastructure choices against actual load and operational needs.

A controlled path forward

  1. 1

    Establish the baseline

Record current versions, dependencies, production constraints and business-critical flows.

  2. 2

    Reduce unknowns

Use focused tests or small technical investigations where assumptions would make a plan unreliable.

  3. 3

    Sequence the work

Separate changes into reviewable stages with clear rollback and decision points where appropriate.

  4. 4

    Validate before claiming success

A completed upgrade, production cutover and measured improvement are different milestones and should be reported separately.

Evidence, with the caveats included

Modernization work is often private. We keep client identity and unfinished outcomes confidential rather than turning work in progress into a marketing success story.

Anonymous Laravel modernization

Current work includes a staged Laravel application upgrade with dependency review, test coverage around critical behaviour and migration planning.

  • Client remains anonymous
  • Work was still in progress at the September 2026 review
  • No production cutover or measured improvement is claimed yet

Infrastructure cost reviews

Recent reviews identified simpler infrastructure options estimated at two to seven times lower cost for the same expected performance.

  • These are planning estimates, not realized savings
  • The suitable option depends on traffic, operational risk and team capacity

What modernization does not mean

The goal is a safer business system, not an impressive list of replaced technologies.

  • We do not recommend a full rewrite until the current system and the cost of change are understood.
  • An upgrade is not called successful until the agreed technical and production checks are complete.
  • Private client work stays anonymous unless publication is approved.
  • Your existing team remains part of the plan because it holds operational knowledge the code cannot explain.

Questions teams usually ask

Can you review the application before we commit to an upgrade?

Yes. A focused assessment can document versions, dependencies, risky flows and practical sequencing before implementation is scoped.

Do you require a rewrite?

No. The default question is what can be simplified, upgraded or isolated safely. A rewrite is considered only when evidence supports it.

Can our developers implement the plan?

Yes. Simi can provide architecture guidance, review and selected implementation support while your team delivers the rest.

How do you reduce migration risk?

By identifying critical behaviour, adding useful test coverage, sequencing changes and defining validation and rollback needs for each stage.

Can you guarantee lower cloud costs?

No responsible review can guarantee savings before workload and operational constraints are measured. We distinguish estimates from verified production results.

Describe what has become difficult to change.

Share the framework version, the business-critical flow and what makes the upgrade or improvement feel risky.
